Law Firm
Problem
A local law firm was experiencing problems with their current processing and needed assistance in reducing fees and losses from chargebacks.
Solution
After reviewing their processing, we recommended they add a second merchant account to minimize risk of their account being shut down because of high chargebacks. Also, since most of their transactions were non-card present, we helped them implement a better system of credit card authorization. We also helped reduce their downgrades by setting up automatic batch closure and making sure pre-authorized transactions were deposited timely.
Result
By implementing a better system of credit card authorization, we have significantly reduced their chargebacks and eliminated the risk of their account being deactivated.
The firm has also improved their awareness of what to look for and how to protect themselves against losses because they are now learning and understanding more about how merchant processing works.
This has saved the firm time and money and reduced aggravation adding up to literally thousands of dollars in soft cost reduction.
According to the customer, working with Merchant Consulting Service has also helped them to have a constant resource to assist them in maintaining and monitoring multiple merchant accounts to support different functions within the law firm. Hotel Industry
Problem
A privately-owned hotel requested Merchant Consulting Service to review their merchant accounts and processing procedures. After analyzing their procedures, we determined that their credit card transactions were clearing at a much higher rate than necessary, which was also costing them additional time in processing their guests.
Solution
In analyzing his merchant statements and front desk procedures, we discovered that the hotel’s processing costs were way out of line with what they should be.
Result
Over several years, based on annual processing volume of approximately $8,000,000, we were able to reduce his cost by $40,000 annually and significantly reduce some difficulties at the front desk, further adding to the overall cost reductions in soft cost.
We continued to provide services for them until they were sold to a national brand at which time the controller actually introduced me to his next hotel group of three hotels, one of which we are serving today.
Construction Equipment
Problem
A construction equipment company was having major issues with its credit card processing software continuously crashing. The company was getting little to no support from their current merchant processor.
Solution
After meeting with them and reviewing their processing and procedures, we were able to temporarily solve their crashing issues by putting them on a different gateway and processor. Over the next year, we worked with their inventory and accounting software vendor and created a QuipWare integration which permanently fixed the problem.
Result
The migration from the previous credit card processing company to Merchant Consulting Service saved the company 8 percent in service fees in the first year. Their parts and service departments became more productive because the company was able to process credit cards from within QuipWare at the point of sale, eliminating double entry.
In addition to creating a long term solution for them and 32 other clients of the software vendor, we were also able to reduce their processing cost by $11,000 annually through our analysis and comparison process and now provide regular audits to ensure their fees and solutions remain constant.
Manufacturing Company
Problem
A large manufacturing company was in need of a professional review of their current merchant processing fees. Through in-depth analysis, Merchant Consulting Service discovered that the company was not paying even close to what they were promised. On top of being overcharged, their gateway was difficult to navigate and the staff was not trained on proper safety procedures which caused their chargebacks and processing fees to increase.
Solution
Through procedural changes and staff training, we were able to fix the chargeback problem and significantly reduce downgrades. By moving them to one of our preferred processing companies and changing their pricing structure
Result
We were able reduce her processing fees by nearly $10,000.00 annually. By regularly auditing her account, we insured there was no “rate creep” as long as she was our client.
